Letter from the CEO

Hi Friends,

My name is Victoria Fleisher, Chief Executive Officer, with Globe, a (WBE) Certified Women Business Enterprise, since June 2014. Since 1964 we have been family owned and operated, and I am so excited to share with you the story of who we are and what makes us so special.

Globe was founded by my grandfather, Vincent Cibrano. His first introduction to the moving business was in 1958, when he began working as a Dispatcher for a company called the Sofia Brothers. There he quickly realized that he not only loved the industry, but that he had all the necessary skills to be a great salesperson. After two years as a Dispatcher, Vinny left the Sofia Brothers to take a sales position at Weisberger Moving & Storage – the largest moving company in NYC at the time. As the new, young salesperson at Weisberger, Vinny wasn’t given any favors. He instead outhustled every single member of the veteran sales team. After 4 years at Weisberger, he became the top seller and realized it was time for him to create his own legacy. And thus in 1964, the Globe Storage & Moving of today was born.

My grandfather built Globe with one simple mission in mind: “Satisfy the needs of the business community with professionalism, innovation, attention to detail, and a willingness to meet any project challenge with enthusiasm and resourcefulness.” No better story in Globe’s past exemplifies this than the 1986 move for Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. At the time, Paul, Weiss was one of NYC’s largest law firms and they had a mammoth move to plan. They presented a unique challenge to all prospective moving companies: come up with a method of relocating their large library and records departments, without losing access to these items during the extensive packing and preparation phase. It was here that my grandfather invented the mobile carrier: a five-shelf bookcase on wheels. As a result, employees and file room personnel were able to access books and records up to the time of relocation. This invention allowed us to become an elite player in the NYC commercial moving world, and it forever changed the course of our family’s business.

I love this story because it shows the lengths Globe has always gone to support our clients – so much so that we invented an industry-standard piece of equipment. This spirit is still thriving in the Globe of today – we continue to learn, adapt, and evolve to best meet the needs of our clients. Because of this, we have remained leaders in the industry, with an impeccable résumé of clients.

According to an Oregon State study, “only 30% of family firms make it past the first generation, 13% past the second, and a gloomy 3% make it past the third.” We are so incredibly proud to have reached this rarified air, and I do not take this responsibility lightly. It is my resolve to continue my grandfather’s legacy, build on our tradition of ingenuity and never stop providing our clients with the best possible experience. I love Globe to my core, and I am positive that if you have the chance to work with us, you will too.

– Victoria Fleisher, Chief Executive Officer

Our Team

Our Union

Globe’s workforce are proud members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters 814. Teamsters Local 814 was established in 1925 as a means to unionize New York’s professional movers, art handlers, warehousemen and race track workers. Our partnership with this long-standing union allows us to staff our projects with the most professional and highly trained workers in the industry.

Our workers benefit from union membership because:

  • Every employee not only earns a living wage, but is also provided with fully sponsored healthcare, receives multiple retirement planning benefits, and full vacation packages.
  • Union membership ensures job security – their rights as employees are not only protected, but they also have the flexibility to work for all companies that are signatory to the union.

Our clients benefit from hiring a union workforce because:

  • You are guaranteed to have qualified professionals executing your move. All of our employees are fully vetted and average over 10 years of experience in the field.
  • We are able to support the largest projects in NYC because of our access to qualified labor. While we employ 40 full time movers on a daily basis, we also have access to over 600 qualified professionals as needed.
  • Labor Harmony will be guaranteed on your project site. We are the only commercial moving union that is affiliated with the NYC Central Labor Council & The NY State Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York. Because of this, we can not only work in any building, but we can coexist with any construction trades that may still be on your floor.
